Who We Are

We’re Escape Outside the Box – Josh and Carmen, a creative duo crafting immersive environments, custom props, sets, and escape room scenic builds from our workshop in Dorset, with clients spanning across the UK.

Josh is our hands-on builder of the weird and wonderful. With a background in illustration, he transforms ideas into tangible, imaginative spaces – from foam-carved trees and giant book-page owls to scenic sets and custom props. Josh brings your immersive story to life through craft, design, and scenic fabrication.

Carmen is the organiser, scenic painter, and detail specialist. She balances creativity with clarity, handling project logistics, colour palettes, texture work, and scenic finishing to turn bold ideas into cohesive, unforgettable builds.

Together, we blend art and engineering to design, build, and finish immersive spaces, props, and scenic sets for escape rooms, experiential events, festivals, and brand activations, always prioritising sustainability, storytelling, and intentional craftsmanship.

Concept Development – refining ideas, storytelling, and set/prop planning

Design & Planning – detailed sketches, layouts, and materials selection

Fabrication – in-house scenic building, prop construction, poly carving, woodwork, and scenic finishing

Installation – on-site or workshop-based, ready for your audience

We manage projects from concept to installation, working with clients of all scales, from independent escape room owners and festival teams to large brand activations, ensuring every project meets production deadlines, budget requirements and a consistently high level finish.
