We’re Escape Outside the Box - Josh and Carmen, a creative duo building worlds from our scenic workshop in the heart of Mid Wales.
Josh is the builder of the weird and wonderful - a maker with a background in illustration who fell in love with immersive storytelling through craft. From foam-carved trees to giant owls made from book pages, he’s the hands behind the imagination, shaping spaces that transport people into entirely new worlds.
Carmen is the organiser, scenic painter, and detail-bringer - balancing creativity with clarity. From admin and project logistics to colour palettes and texture work, she helps turn wild ideas into grounded, beautiful builds that truly come to life.
Together, we’ve created a workshop where art meets engineering, and ideas become tangible. We design, build, and finish immersive spaces for escape rooms, experiential events, festivals, and high street activations - all with a focus on sustainability, storytelling, and heart.
We work closely with our clients from the first spark of an idea to the final installation, helping refine concepts, plan logistics, and bring projects to life with craftsmanship and care. Whether you come to us with a clear vision or a scribble on a napkin, we’ll help shape it into something unforgettable.
Every prop, set, and structure we craft is made with intention, built to last, and rooted in the belief that imagination has no limits when you give it form.
How we work
Every project starts with a conversation. We take the time to understand your vision - the story you want to tell, the atmosphere you want to create, and the experience you want people to walk away with.
From there, we move through the process step by step: concept development, design & planning, fabrication, and final installation - all handled in-house from our scenic workshop in Mid Wales or on-site as you need.
We’re adaptable and hands-on, working with clients of all scales - from independent escape room owners and festival teams to large creative established businesses and brand activations.
Throughout the process, we prioritise clear communication, sustainable choices, and attention to detail. Whether we’re crafting a single prop or transforming an entire environment, our aim is always the same: to create something that feels alive and something that people will remember.
